The Medill Foundation Center rose before me like a temple of judgment, its limestone facade gleaming in the pale November light. I stood at the base of the steps, my leather portfolio clutched against my chest, the weight of months of work pressing against my ribs. The manuscript inside was the culmination of everything I had learned, everything I had sacrificed, everything I had refused to compromise.
